3 Subconscious Lies that Keep You Second-Guessing Your Intuition
Connect with your intuition, quiet the noise, and finally trust your inner knowing.
For most of my life, I relied heavily on logic, strategy, and my analytical mind to guide my decisions. I used to believe that if I had all the facts, then I could make the right aligned choices. That was only until I began to experience daily migraines, nausea, and mysterious illnesses that a set of data points couldn’t explain.
I was exhausted, burnt out, and overwhelmed with even the most minor tasks like getting out of bed in the morning.
Life had become a burden, which was a result of the constant pressure I put on myself to have every detail planned out.
The truth is, I was letting fear guide me, but I used logic as the reason why I was always sprinting to beat the clock, but never winning the race.
Since I was a young child, I have been very intuitive and had a clear sense about things that would take place, how people felt, and what was going to happen next. However, as I stepped into the responsibilities of adulthood, my overachieving mind was constantly strategizing for the future, which blocked me from accessing my intuitive knowing.
You know when you have those moments when you have a small still voice that says, “say no”, “don’t go”, “call her,” and you second-guess it? I brushed them off all the time and just moved full speed ahead with the plan.
What I didn’t realize is that I was letting self-doubt and my subconscious beliefs run the show. Beliefs about not being enough, not being safe to trust myself, and needing validation and all the facts before taking action.
Once I started uncovering those deeper patterns, my intuition came online in a whole new way. Messages became clearer, synchronicities flowed effortlessly, and I stopped outsourcing my power to the pressures of my mind and misbeliefs.
If you feel like your intuition is blocked or unclear, you’re not broken; you’re just bumping up against subconscious beliefs.
In this article, you will learn three common subconscious beliefs that are getting in the way of connecting with your intuition and using it to make aligned choices.
Belief #1: “I can’t trust myself.”
This one runs deep, especially if you grew up in environments where your caregivers dismissed your emotions or instincts. It’s not uncommon for adults to try to convince their children that what they feel or think is wrong in an attempt to protect them. But what they are unknowingly doing is discrediting a child’s innate intuition. As a result, a child learns not to trust their hunches.
Maybe you heard, “You’re too sensitive,” or “That’s not logical.” Over time, your nervous system learned that intuition equals danger, because it led to disapproval or rejection.
When you don’t trust yourself, you unconsciously hand your power to others, such as teachers, coaches, partners, or authority figures, and start seeking permission to act on what your soul already knows.
You learn that using your logical brain is more important than trusting in your gut. This creates the habit of analyzing and seeking external sources for answers. This habit becomes your way of living in the world.
This is how to rewire the belief that you can’t be trusted: Trust isn’t something you have to earn; it’s something you remember. Every time you listen to that quiet inner nudge (even in small ways), you rebuild that trust muscle. With time, you begin to learn the ways in which your intuition speaks to you directly and finally let go of fear and doubt.
Here is an aligned action you can take now: This week, pause before making a decision and ask, “What does my body feel when it’s a yes?” Tune into that subtle signal, warmth, openness, ease. Then honor it and move forward with calm knowing that you can trust in these signs.
Belief #2: “It has to make sense first.”
Your intuition speaks in quiet nudges, a soft whisper, or through synchronicities, not a loud, booming, obvious voice that results from reasoning. The ego, however, loves certainty and control. So when intuitive guidance doesn’t fit neatly into a plan, the mind panics and tries to rationalize it away.
Dismissing intuitive messages because it doesn’t make sense is not uncommon. It’s actually one of the most common mistakes I see in people who are just learning to tune into their inner guidance.
There is a place for reasoning, but it shouldn’t be your first line of defence when making decisions that align with your Higher Self. Get still and go within to become familiar with your inner voice. Notice how it communicates to you and how you react to it.
You may not understand in the exact moment why you’re getting the intuitive hit, but intuition often guides us before we can see the full picture. It’s not about having the right data; it’s about energetic alignment.
This is how to rewire the belief that it has to make sense first: Intuition isn’t about having concrete evidence; it’s about taking the right action based on your inner senses and then understanding why, how, or what will follow. When you take action based on your intuition, you are sending the Universe the signal that you don’t need to know the answer, but you are trusting to take inspired action anyway. As a result, you become more comfortable in your intuition, and it strengthens.
Here is an aligned action you can take now: Next time you feel a pull toward something that doesn’t make “sense,” take one small action toward it. Turn right instead of left. Make the phone call. Start the project. Let the evidence unfold naturally. Then acknowledge yourself for stepping out of your comfort zone and the confines of your overactive mind. This is where freedom is experienced.
Belief #3: “I need to be more spiritual / healed/ gifted to be intuitive.”
This one drives me bananas. Because it’s an outright LIE, it keeps so many people stuck and feeling inadequate.
You may believe that intuition is only for the gifted ones, the psychics, the mystics, the ones who meditate all day and chant mantras.
The truth is, your intuition isn’t waiting for you to become more healed or more spiritual; it speaks to you every day of your life. It is with you now. It never just goes away because of life circumstances or the trauma you endured in childhood. However, it can often feel like that.
You are innately intuitive. We all are. We’ve been fed the lie that we are somehow not enough to access our inner truth. Our inner Divinity. That the answers are out there somewhere in the next guru or expert.
The reason you can’t hear your intuitive voice is that you believe you don’t have access to it. Your mind is blocking you from the truth. Your truth.
No matter what you’ve been through in life, it is never too late to strengthen your connection to your intuition. Even if you’re not a guru or plan to be one anytime soon. You’re always just in time to tune in.
This is how to rewire the belief that you must be spiritual / healed/ gifted to be intuitive: Know that every human is born intuitive and that intuition doesn’t die because of who you are and what kind of lifestyle you live. You don’t need to be perfect; you need to be present.
Here is an aligned action you can take now: Instead of trying to raise your vibration or fix yourself, take three deep breaths, place your hand on your heart, and simply ask, “What do I need to know right now?” Listen to the first whisper that comes through, that’s your truth. That’s your intuition. Be calm and present, knowing that you are guided and will continue to be throughout your life.
Practical Takeaway
Your intuition is always speaking, but your subconscious decides how loud the volume is.
Here’s a simple way to turn it up and turn it on:
Journal Prompt:
“What belief am I still holding that tells me it’s not safe to trust myself?”
Write for 5–10 minutes without censoring or editing. Let the words flow. Then, next to each belief, write:
→ Where did I learn this?
→ Is it actually true now?
→ What would I do if I fully trusted myself today?
Notice how your body feels as you write, warmth, expansion, or even tears - that’s your intuition beginning to move again.

I love this advice: "Place your hand on your heart, and simply ask, “What do I need to know right now?” I will always remember what one intuitive said to me when I couldn't trust my gut. I was a young, harried, working mom. She said when I feel confused it just means I need more information -- from my SELF (not my brain). I found this so helpful at the time. It was a revelation, and a deep recognition, to simply tune in and listen.
