It was a sunny and slow September morning. I had just returned from a 2 week trip to Greece. Spending cuddle time on the couch with Moose, my mini Bernedoodle who was anxiously waiting to get back to his regular scheduled program of endless pets. I opened the Akashic Records the way I do almost every day. Only this time I wasn’t asking a question. I was begging for help.
My voice had been going in and out, since May of 2025. On a good day it came out strained and thin, like air squeezed through a slightly cracked door that won’t open all the way. And scary moments where nothing would come out. Nothing! For a woman whose whole job is talking to people, that’s a special kind of torture.
So I sat there and pleaded. Please. Tell me how to fix this.
The answer had nothing to do with my throat.
We’re taught that spiritual growth means finding what’s wrong with us and fixing it. Clear the block, then optimize the next thing. The Records showed me something different that afternoon, and they’ve been showing me versions of it for years. These are the 9 lessons that changed how I live. Some are gentle reminders of what you may have already known. And a couple might ruffle your feathers.
Lesson 1: You have a team of spiritual advisors waiting
You are never doing this life alone. Every one of us has a team of spiritual advisors waiting for us, and most of us forget to ask them for help. That’s the important first step to becoming besties with them.
My team shows up for me all day long. I work with Angels and Light beings. I see my guides in the numbers that keep repeating, and in the butterflies and birds that cross my path right when I need a message. I channel the Akashic Records every day, sometimes while petting my dogs and sometimes while cutting small gold potatoes for dinner. It’s a relationship, and like any relationship, it grows the more you show up for it.
For years, I was burnt out and disconnected, trying to figure everything out on my own. What changed my life was learning to lean on my Higher Self and my Spirit Team. Shout-out to Archangel Michael and his crew. They’re the reason I live my soul purpose every day. Well, part of the reason.
Your team respects your free will, so they wait for an invitation. All it takes is asking, out loud or in your journal. And if you’re still not sure, that’s what I help with inside your Akashic Records.
They were waiting for me on that couch too, the afternoon I finally stopped trying to fix my voice by myself and asked for help.
Lesson 2: What you focus on grows
Some context first. I’ve carried vocal cord damage since my traumatic intubation and NDE 18 years ago, and the strain has stacked up over time. There’s past-life history wrapped up in it, too, which I’m saving for its own article.
By last month, I couldn’t see anything but the problem. I mean, I feel justified in that reason. If you ever lost your ability to speak, you can relate. Every conversation turned into a quiet calculation about how many words I could afford that day. I was researching, asking, trying, and scanning for whatever might work next.
Somewhere in all the searching and intent focus, my gratitude practice slipped away. The morning ritual I’d kept for years, where I set my intention before I start my day, had quietly disappeared. I never decided to stop. The fixing just crowded it out.
What the Records showed me was me. A version of me who had started looking at her whole life through the lens of what’s broken and needs repair.
There was no other reason to feel anything less than completely grateful for this life. Everything else was good. And I couldn’t feel any of it because every ounce of my attention was locked on the one thing that wasn’t working.
I wasn’t healing my voice. I was feeding the fix.
If you look at your life as something to fix, you’ll always find something to fix. The list never ends because the looking is what fills it. That’s a lack mindset dressed up as self-improvement.
I know you’ve heard “start a gratitude practice” a hundred times. I’d heard it too. I’d taught it. And I still dropped it when I was filled with worry, doubt and struggle.
Gratitude is the switch that moves your attention off the hole and back onto everything that’s been holding you up the whole time. Focus on what’s right instead of what’s not working and bring more of that into your life. Suddenly, the problems don’t feel so heavy to carry anymore. I call this turning pain into pleasure.
I’m not advocating for you to just ignore the real stuff. But when it becomes all-consuming, it’s time to shift your focus. The ability to move from a contracted state to an expanded state is our superpower, and it happens through one single decision at a time. Not always easy, but simple. And the Records have shown time and time again that we have the power to do that.
Lesson 3: You are more powerful than you believe
Your thoughts are energy, including the subconscious ones silenty running in the background while you make your coffee, brush your teeth and check off your to do list. You know the one that tries to convince you that you’re not doing enough which often translates to you are not enough. Sneaky… I know.
So if you’re stuck in a never-ending debate about how to fix the next problem, your energy is pouring straight into the fix.
As Joe Dispenza teaches, your personality creates your personal reality. Think about someone who’s always exhausted and always bracing for the next bad thing. Their days keep proving them right. It loops. And then they wonder why them again? You know this person; I know a few of them. But no judgment.
You can break that loop with one decision, and you get to make it again in every moment. If you want a new reality, you have to become the version of you who already lives in it. It’s a practice, not an overnight transformation. Through intention and the decision to live differently every day, starting with what you play on repeat in your mind, your life can change dramatically for the better. You are the force behind it all.
Lesson 4: Being spiritual doesn’t mean abandoning your humanness
I see this all the time in my client work, and if I’m honest, I fell right into it myself. I lived in the light and rejected anything that didn’t come from it. I picked a side. That’s spiritual bypassing, and it keeps us stuck behind a very pretty wall we call living high-vibe.
I still choose the light every day. The caveat is that it gets to be both.
If you like a tall glass of Cabernet (a 9-ounce pour, please), drink the Cabernet. If you love Metallica (my husband’s favorite band from the 90s, which eventually rubbed off on me), rock out, sister. And if you finally explode at someone you love because you’ve been holding it in way too long, that anger is real, and it needs to be felt. It’s a signal that a boundary got crossed. You aren’t less spiritual because you freaked TF out.
The ego gets a bad rap in spiritual circles. People talk about killing it or rising above it. The way I’ve come to see it, your ego is the part of you that keeps you safe and gets you to the dentist on time. It’s the vehicle your soul chose for this human ride. The trouble starts when it grabs the wheel and decides it’s driving. Your soul leads. Your ego gets a back seat in the car. Nobody gets kicked out.
Yes, everything holds a particular frequency. But you didn’t sign up to be high-vibrational with every breath you take. You signed up to experience the polarity of being spiritual along with being human and to feel the difference.
All of you belong. Nobody’s striving for perfection here. That isn’t even a thing.
Lesson 5: Forgiveness is the greatest alchemizer of pain
Nearly every tradition circles back to this. Jesus told Peter to forgive seventy times seven. The Dhammapada teaches that hatred never ends with more hatred, but only with love. In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna names forgiveness as one of the qualities of a divine nature.
You’ve probably heard that holding onto resentment is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to get sick. It gets pinned on the Buddha a lot, but it most likely comes from 12-step recovery circles. Either way, it rings true, because it is. The pain you’re carrying — they walked away from long ago.
Forgiveness doesn’t let anyone off the hook. It gives you permission to put the pain down once and for all. And please don’t forgive because someone told you to (like I’m doing right now). Do it because you’re ready to take off the energetic ball and chain that has been invisibly keeping you stuck in a place you don’t want to be. Including in your head.
Forgiveness alchemizes because it returns an energetic imprint to neutral, making room for joy and pleasure again. I shared the prayer of forgiveness in How To Forgive A Parent Who Hurt You: Even When Empathy Isn’t the Problem, a simple practice you can repeat every day.
Sometimes the person you need to forgive is you. I believe everyone is doing the best they can with where they are. When you know better, you do better, and that knowing gives you room to forgive.
Lesson 6: Your body is the ultimate wisdom keeper
When I first learned to read the Records, I loved escaping there. Some days I still do. But leaving the body means leaving the truth, and that doesn’t hold up long-term.
Back to my voice. Across many lifetimes as a healer and a witch (IYKYK), I’ve carried a belief that if I spoke up, my life would be in danger. Literally, in a past life and in this one. As a survivor of childhood neglect, abuse, and abandonment, I learned to live as an observer, waiting for the next irresponsible move from a caretaker. My body has been a hard place to live. Let’s just say I’m a work in progress.
I’ve been a student of yoga for 15 years. On my mat, I can’t be anywhere but my breath and my body. And the second I roll that mat up, I’m right back in my analytical brain.
Last week I was reading Amanda’s Records and felt intense pressure building in my head. I asked if she got migraines. She said no. The Records cleared it up fast. Amanda had been living in her head, strategizing and overthinking, and it was time to come back to her body. Then she told me her massage therapist has been telling her her scalp was incredibly tense. She’d been feeling little poking sensations too, like her body tapping her on the shoulder.
Your body speaks in whispers first. Ignore her long enough, and the signals get louder until there’s a medical emergency. You don’t need a wake-up call to start listening. Talk to her like she’s your best friend. She holds wisdom no book or guru can reach.
Your human body is unlike any other species or being. The Records showed me that the human body is a source of fascination for off-planet beings. They’re especially curious about sexual chemistry and intimacy between humans, something they’ll never experience themselves.
The body you pick apart in the mirror is a marvel to beings who will never have one like it. Maybe she deserves a little more honor from you.
Body-based practices are everywhere right now. Nervous system work, breathwork, yoga, and sound baths all bring you back below the neck. EFT tapping is an easy place to start because you can do it anywhere, and it has a growing body of research. Reviews of the studies have found positive effects on anxiety, and a 2025 meta-analysis found that it reduced PTSD symptoms.
If your body is sending signals and grabbing your attention, that is the wisdom keeper poking at you. But you have to be still and present enough. Not rushing past it because it feels inconvenient in the moment. Take it from someone who has been dealing with a big inconvenience for the past 18 months.
Lesson 7: Your heart is the compass to your soul
Some traditions teach that desire itself is the problem. Certain readings of Buddhism name craving as the root of suffering, and strands of Christianity and Hinduism have long treated wanting as something to rise above. Plenty of women I work with absorbed that message and learned to feel guilty for wanting anything at all.
Let’s finally put an end to all of that bs.
What the Records have shown me is that when you live from an open heart, you live aligned with your truth.
The tricky part is that ego desire can dress up as heart desire. Take relationships. Your heart can ache for a certain person because of what your subconscious believes that relationship will give you. Your soul knows what’s underneath. I won’t pretend it’s always easy to tell the difference. It gets easier the longer you practice knowing yourself, and for some people, that takes years, sometimes a lifetime.
I open my heart every morning with a meditation called The Inspired Heart, connecting with the unconditional love and light within me and all around me. The more you listen to your desires and follow through on them, the clearer they become. Even when they’re scary. Especially when they’re scary.
Your heart will lead you to places you never imagined. It is part of your soul signal and guidance, bringing you into alignment with your truth. You can always tell when someone is living embodied (aka guided by their heart) because they exude joy, bliss, and excitement for life.
Lesson 8: Life is not fated
Yes, you write a soul contract before you come here. Certain relationships and experiences are written in. Maybe they happen. Maybe they don’t.
I had a soul contract to have 3 children. Before I was a mother, I had a literal dream about 3 kids, the sleeping kind. A reader later predicted 3 children, and it felt true in my bones. I’m 48 now, with 2 daughters.
So why the contradiction? Free will. You can change course at any time, and so can your soul. Most of what you experience is flexible, unfolding according to your soul’s evolution. Spirit has told me again and again (because I ask a lot) that life isn’t fated.
A handful of events will happen regardless of free will. The Records have shown me that these can include certain relationships, careers, and when we die. Even then, there are several exit points in any lifetime, and your soul decides which one to take. Life is one big field of possibilities and potential. Don’t ever limit yourself because of fate or destiny. You get to choose. There you go again… in your personal power.
Lesson 9: Wanting money is spiritual
Don’t come at me on this one. There’s a silent program running on autopilot in spiritual communities, where I live and all over the world, that says wanting money makes you less spiritual.
Instead of judging yourself for wanting it, look at why. For me, money means time freedom, the ability to help others, less stress in my marriage, and convenience. Oh, the convenience. The stress of not having enough is real, and I’m not dismissing it. Money is energy like everything else, and whether it feels stressful depends on what you believe about it at a subconscious level.
You can say you want money, but if the hidden belief is “money is the root of all evil” or “more money, more problems” (which I’ll argue all day is complete bs), it’ll be hard to come by no matter how hard you work.
My old belief was that you have to work hard and sacrifice yourself for money. Oooof. That one went deep. Now I use a money mantra that once brought in $60K of unexpected income in a single month:
I love money, and money loves me. Money flows to me easily and effortlessly.
And please stop declaring yourself broke. I never let anyone in my orbit say those words. Words cast spells. That’s why it’s called spelling.
If wanting money still feels icky, picture every heart-led healer (including yourself) and creator on this planet with a shit ton of money. That’s the world I want to live in. Money in the right hands can change the direction of a self-serving, greed-driven society.
What these 9 lessons have in common
Put them side by side, and the pattern shows up fast. Every lesson pulls you out of fixing mode and back into the life you’re already living. Gratitude and forgiveness free up the attention you’ve been giving to old pain. Your body and your heart hold answers that your analytical brain keeps trying to outthink. And your desires, money included, are signals worth listening to instead of shaming, judging, or pushing them away.
You are a soul remembering who she is, and remembering feels a lot lighter than fixing.
What I did the next morning
The morning after that session inside the Akashic Records, I went back to my ritual. I set my intention for love and compassion the way I used to, and I added gratitude back in. Then I kept doing it every morning. And still am.
It wasn’t hard to get back to that place of connecting with my heart again, not because I love to wear rose-colored glasses, but because it feels honest and true. Not just within the mind but also in the body.
My voice began to soften. It isn’t perfect, and there are still energetic imprints to clear. I’ll tell you more about the witch wound underneath it in a future article. But I feel like I’m well on my way to reclaiming the part of me I gave away.
A 5-minute practice for this week
Tomorrow morning, before you pick up your phone, put one hand on your heart and one on your belly. Take 5 slow breaths. Name 4 things in your life that don’t need fixing, out loud if you can, in your head if you can’t.
Then ask your body one question: What do you need from me today?
Wait for whatever comes, a word or a sensation. Write it down. Do it every day this week and notice what shifts in where your attention goes.
I went into the Records begging for a fix for my voice. What I got back was my life, all of it, waiting for me to notice the joy and the peace again.
Maybe you’ve been staring at one problem so long you’ve stopped seeing everything holding you up. Your body knows. Your heart knows. Come back and listen.
Find your soul signal
Every one of these lessons comes back to trusting the signals you’re already getting. Your intuition is always talking through your body and your heart. Most of us were taught to tune it out.
If you want to know how your intuition speaks to you, take the free Soul Signal Assessment at nikkiheals.com/free-quiz. It shows you your dominant clair, the way your intuition naturally comes through, and the spirit animal medicine you carry. It’s a beautiful place to start.
And if you’re ready to go deeper, I work privately with a small number of women in Soul & Mind Alchemy, my 90-day 1:1 mentorship. We move through 4 phases, Remembering, Releasing, Returning and Living, so you can stop handing your power to someone else and learn to read your own Akashic Records. nikkiheals.com/mentorship
All my love,
Nikki K
Which of these 9 lessons landed in your body first? Drop the number in the comments. And if it was lesson 9, I want to hear your money mantra.
If someone in your life has been stuck in fix-it mode, share this with her.
