Your Hidden Beliefs Are Running the Show- How to rewrite the story.
Subconscious Beliefs & Patterns that Keep You Stuck
Have you ever noticed how the same situations keep coming up over and over again in life, no matter how hard you work to heal? Maybe it’s the relationship that is a mirror of the last one, just a different face and name. Or perhaps it’s in your business, where you keep hitting your head against the same glass ceiling, wondering why you can’t beat the plateau of growth and sustainability while feeling burnt out and ready to throw in the towel.
This was me in my quest for weight loss and health transformation. No matter how much I restricted my eating, counted calories, pushed my body in extreme workouts that left me exhausted, I never lost a single pound. I was frustrated, discouraged, and believed that my body was broken. No matter what I did, I couldn’t seem to find any success in my efforts. I was so frustrated.
That was only until I started digging deeper into my beliefs about weight loss, and I intentionally began to rewrite those thoughts that sneakily looped in my subconscious mind. Thoughts like “I can never look like her”, “I’m too old.”, “I had 2 babies, 20 years ago”, and those were the reasons. I even blamed my thyroid, my hormones, and my asthma medications. While these beliefs were created to protect me, they certainly weren’t serving my highest good. I had no choice but to choose a new reality, and that started with thinking differently.
I created a new identity for myself. I knew if it was in my heart, it was meant for me. That’s how the Divine works. I started to set new parameters for the way I thought about weight loss. I shifted to make it more about my health than my appearance. I stopped eating gluten and dairy, and you know what else I stopped? I quit the “I want to throw up and die at the same time” workouts. They weren’t working, and I was killing myself. I started to hold myself accountable and became more disciplined with what I knew I should be doing all along. You know, like not eating ice cream in bed.
When you feel stuck, it isn’t some force that is working against you in life. It’s your beliefs and thought patterns that play on repeat that are keeping your feet firmly planted in the old, worn-out ways that don’t serve you. These subconscious loops once played an important role in your life, and that was to keep you safe from perceived danger.
Today, we’ll explore how to spot these patterns and loops that play on repeat that are directing your life, and how to release them for good.
What Are Patterns and Why They Keep You Stuck
Thought patterns are subconscious beliefs that are formed in the early years of life. Typically between birth and age 7. These habits and emotional triggers happen without conscious awareness. They then become ingrained in our reality through repetition. This can look like:
A childhood fear of being abandoned could show up as you clinging to relationships you know aren’t healthy and aligned.
Your parents’ impossible standards might result in you being a perfectionist.
Money struggles growing up can evolve into a lifelong scarcity mindset.
These loops continue to play in the background of your mind and nervous system. If left unchecked, it will continue to create the reality you’re experiencing without you ever knowing why.
Our childhood traumas, relationships with our parents or caregivers and how we experienced the world when we were kids get repressed and forgotten.
Carl Jung, Analytical Psychologist, went beyond traditional psychology, which saw humans not just as a bundle of neuroses but as souls on a journey toward wholeness. He believed that parts of us that we deny or reject, such as anger, vulnerability, and self-expression, get ingrained into the unconscious. Over time, they create hidden beliefs such as “I am not worthy to receive”, “It’s unsafe to have money”, and “If I speak up, I will be abandoned”. Jung coined this as the “shadow”. He also believed that we inherit universal human patterns, such as gender roles and religious beliefs, that shape our subconscious mind.
My favorite quote from Carl Jung is, “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”
I want you to know that your life is not fated.
This is the process of how the subconscious pattern gets formed
Initial wound/experience →
Belief to stay safe →
Repetition in similar situations →
Pattern feels automatic and unchangeable.
The repetition of these patterns becomes imprinted into your psyche. The good news? It’s not permanent. But you must recognize what needs to be changed before you ever see a transformation take place.
Common Patterns People Struggle With
There is no shortage of hidden patterns that keep us stuck. Depending on the environment you grew up in, and even past life experiences, will determine what beliefs you carry throughout your life.
Here are some of the most common and how they present themselves:
Fear of abandonment- staying in a relationship way past its expiration date.
Perfectionism- Spending way too much time and energy on a task that should be completed in ½ the time.
People-Pleasing- Not saying no when it’s not aligned, then feeling resentful.
Scarcity Mindset- Feeling like you never have enough or YOU are not enough.
Resistance to Change- Feeling frantic when there is a shift in life that wasn’t planned.
Maybe you see yourself in one of these, or possibly all of them. There is no shame in recognizing that. You aren’t alone.
Every person here on earth carries some type of subconscious beliefs that aren’t serving them. Unless you’ve completely ascended into 5D consciousness, then I’d guess you wouldn’t be here reading this. Know that awareness is the key to breaking the cycle.
Signs You Could Be Stuck in a Pattern
There are definitive signs that you could be stuck in a loop.
Here’s what you want to look for:
The same type of situations keep replaying themselves, even with different settings and different people. You’re the common denominator.
Emotional triggers feel much bigger than what the situation warrants.
You feel like you’re running in circles despite trying to change.
Your body reacts with tension, fatigue, and anxiety in certain circumstances.
You can’t seem to break a bad habit even through willpower.
By becoming aware of your reactions, you can then begin to change. You can inquire into why you feel such a negative response to things that keep showing up over and over again. Curious self-inquiry is your friend and your way out of the negative loop.
How to Release These Patterns
There is good news. You can successfully break the patterns that once had a hold of you to create a life that is more aligned with your Higher Self. You were born pure before other people and circumstances taught you to be in a state doubt, uncertainty and fear.
For a pattern to be ingrained, it requires consistent and persistent imprinting into the subconscious mind. Guess what needs to be done to rewrite it? You got it! You have to start choosing a different perspective, not just once, but over and over.
Breaking free isn’t about forcing yourself to “just stop”; it’s more about bringing it into awareness, honoring the message behind it, and choosing a new way of seeing things.
There are 4 steps you can take to rewrite the story and belief.
Awareness- Name the trigger or pattern. Notice when it shows up in your life. This requires you to be present.
Loving Acceptance- Release self-blame. See that the protection is no longer needed. Honor the part of you that is trying to keep you safe. Speak to her and let her know that she is loved and supported.
Release- Tools such as breathwork, somatic shaking, fascia release, and energetic tools like cord cutting. Subconscious rewriting through visualization practices and journaling can be very powerful.
Integration- Practice. Practice. Practice. Be patient until these empowered responses become your new way of living.
Journaling prompts to get unstuck and create a new reality that aligns with your Higher Self.
What situations in my life seem to repeat themselves? And with whom?
When did I first remember feeling this way?
How has this belief limited me?
Are my thoughts about this true right now?
What new thought feels more empowering moving forward?
The patterns holding you back are not life sentences; they’re simply outdated loops asking to be released. When you meet them with compassion and intention, you free yourself to write a new story.
This week, I invite you to choose one repeating pattern in your life. Walk through the journaling prompts above, and notice how the awareness alone begins to shift your energy.
